Eye See You
Granville Island in Vancouver is constructed of a palette of bright colors, reflecting its bohemian roots. Whimsy is plentiful, and that someone chose to decorate these windows with the eyes of a clown was not surprising. It caught my eye initially because of the whimsy, but as I got closer and looked up from in front of the building, the eyes became a bit more menacing, with eyebrows forming from the now darkened window frame above and highlighted by a row of birds perched above. With a blue sky as background, it occurred to me that these were now the eyes of the clown that scares some kids at the circus. The one they don't want watching them. Or, from my experience of the change in perspective based purely on my physical position, it was a good clown gone bad.
