Desert Southwest

Since my first visit to this part of the country in my early 20's, I have been enamored with the stark beauty, enjoyed all of the various eco-systems from deserts, to canyons, to mountain forests, and learned about Native American cultures and their Anasazi predecessors. It is also the only place in the world where I feel small - dwarfed by big sky and huge natural artifacts.

In the summer of 2019, I had the opportunity to revisit some of my favorite places in Arizona, and see some new places in New Mexico - this time with my camera. These are some of my favorite shots.

Turtle and Cauliflower

The Bisti Badlands in New Mexico are home to all kinds of alien looking rock formations crafted by millennia of wind and water. I spied this at the top of a ~70 foot hill and was struck my how much it looked like a sad turtle carrying a cauliflower on its back.
