Desert Southwest
Since my first visit to this part of the country in my early 20's, I have been enamored with the stark beauty, enjoyed all of the various eco-systems from deserts, to canyons, to mountain forests, and learned about Native American cultures and their Anasazi predecessors. It is also the only place in the world where I feel small - dwarfed by big sky and huge natural artifacts.
In the summer of 2019, I had the opportunity to revisit some of my favorite places in Arizona, and see some new places in New Mexico - this time with my camera. These are some of my favorite shots.

Back Road Ribbon
When I travel through the Southwest I try to avoid Interstates. It results in more pleasant drives and better scenery. So when I drove from Gallup, NM to Tucson, AZ I plotted a route on back roads over mountains and through desert and plains.
This photo was taken just north of Quemado, NM. I had just driven 75 miles and passed a total of 20 cars in that stretch. Much of the ride was like that. Mission accomplished.
